So here we go let’s talk money and Finance! So if you don’t already know, I work in Finance and Accounting. My day to day includes a great amount of Agency and Non-profit accounting, forecasting, budget monitoring and reporting in the millions . Outside of the numbers I work on Ad-hoc internal projects that likely contributes to operational efficiency and people operations.
There’s so many different avenues within Finance and accounting, I exist primarily in the Accounting and Financial Planning and Analysis. - typically includes a great amount of cash management and monthly reporting.
So often people asked me how did I stumble into Finance and operations given my background in Political Science and Law. And honestly For some time I even asked myself that, for the girl who hated math and accounting how did this become your professional career.
I still don’t have the answer to that so I changed my perspective to get closer to the answer. So often people associate ones Educational background to their professional career. While I do think that’s valid for many areas, I do believes some areas where lived experience has a great amount of impact on your career path. I like to think that Finance and Operations was a career that chose me.
Finance, Cash management and operations was something I had to learn quite early in life. Balancing multiple hats, problem solving, and minimizing variation and delays was something I had to figure out as a teenager just to survive. So now as an adult I thrive in this space because life has afforded me life struggles.

My name is Bonnie, I am a first generation Haitian American, meaning my family was not in this country long enough to generate a great amount of wealth. I lost both of my parents by 19, which set my family back in the wealth building pyramid. Left alone with no certain toy and had to navigate this world alone financially. As an adult I am thankful for the
When I think about wealth and money, I remember all the trauma I experienced growing up. Far too young I was exposed to eviction, my goal was to change that narrative. I promised myself that I will build a level of discipline to avoid that narrative for my future.
So my financial journey consists of building a foundation of wealth for the family who will come after me. I may not reap the benefits of what I am sowing but my granddaughter will.
I am liquid, invested, consumer debt free and credit score healthy!
